Marina Mabrey is the only notable returning player, while Tina Charles returns after spending her first four seasons in Connecticut. Charles is a legend, but she’s also now 36 years old. Not much is expected from the Sun this season, and the focus should be on the growth of first round picks Aneesah Morrow and Saniya Rivers. This could be the year that playoff streak is snapped.

Atlanta Dream Betting Preview

The Dream won 15 games last season and now begin the Karl Smesko era. The Dream have made the playoffs the last two years, but they haven’t won a playoff series since the 2018 season. Last season the Dream were the worst scoring team in the WNBA and time will tell if that’s going to improve. However, the Dream made splashy additions in Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones, which will improve the defense. With 13 all-star berths between them, the Dream have star power and will be more watchable this season.

Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard will have less attention on them with those additions, and it should free up the offense. The Dream are still a step or two behind the contenders, but this is a playoff roster and there’s a chance to win their first series in seven years.

Washington Mystics Betting Preview

The Mystics won 14 games last season and will begin the Sydney Johnson era. The Mystics missed the playoffs last year and haven’t won a playoff since 2019 when they won the title. The Mystics are a team in rebuild mode, as they moved off of veterans and drafted Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen. If things don’t break well, Brittney Sykes could be moved as well for even more draft capital. If anything, losing this season wouldn’t be a bad thing when you consider DC native Azzi Fudd could be in play. In the 34 games that Kahleah Copper has played for the Phoenix Mercury in the 2024 WNBA regular season, Copper has averaged a robust 23.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and one steal a game.

More recently, in the Phoenix Mercury’s 74-66 win over the Atlanta Dream two days ago, Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper played exceptionally well from a statistical perspective. More specifically, Kahleah Copper tallied a whopping 28 points, three rebounds, and four assists in 32 minutes played in the Mercury’s victory over the Atlanta Dream.

Looking closer at the data just noted, in the Phoenix Mercury’s win over the Atlanta Dream just noted, Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper accumulated 37.3 Draftkings points.

In my opinion, selecting the correct captain is of the highest importance if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) Draftkings contest. Having stated that, I think that talented Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper is a great play at captain for this one game WNBA DFS Draftkings slate.
