Series Recap

The Florida Panthers drew first blood in the series and stole home ice with a 5-2 win over the Hurricanes in game one. Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring for the Panthers 8:30 into the game on the power play before Aaron Ekblad doubled Florida’s lead less than four minutes later. Sebastian Aho got the Hurricanes on the board in the dying seconds of the first but A.J. Greer would restore Florida’s two-goal lead with the lone goal of the second period. Sam Bennett pushed the lead to 4-1 for Florida on the power play 6:08 into the 3^rd and Eetu Luostarinen made it 5-1 for Florida with just over five minutes to go. Jackson Blake scored a consolation goal for Carolina just 1:24 later, but that’s as close as the Hurricanes would get as the Panthers would slam the door shut on Carolina and open the series with a win.

Panthers Looking To Take 2-0 Lead Going Back Home

Sam Reinhart has a team-high 81 points including 39 goals and 42 assists while Sam Bennett has 51 points with 25 goals and 26 assists and Anton Lundell has 45 points of his own with 17 goals and 28 assists. Aleksander Barkov also has 71 points with 51 assists of his own while Carter Verhaeghe has 53 points with 20 goals and 33 assists and Matthew Tkachuk has 57 points with 22 goals and 35 assists. Sergei Bobrovsky is 33-19-2 with a 2.44 GAA and a .906 save percentage in goal for Florida this season. Vitek Vanecek is also 2-4-1 with a 3.00 GAA and an .890 save percentage in goal for the Panthers this year.

The Stars should be favored at home, where they’ve won six straight games. The Oilers also haven’t played in a week, so who knows if the rest will turn into rust. With that said, we’ve seen the Stars fold in the conference finals in each of the last two years. The Oilers have looked like a team on a mission in these playoffs, and there’s value to getting them in the underdog role given their playoff success dating back to last season. Also, the Oilers have won their last four games as an underdog. With wins in eight of their last nine games and an improved effort defensively, I’m rolling with the Oilers and the more favorable price.

Carolina Hurricanes Betting Preview

The Carolina Hurricanes were able to defeat the Washington Capitals in the last round in five games by scores of 2-1, 1-3, 4-0, 5-2, and 3-1. In their game five win, Carolina was tied at one late in the game, but they scored two goals in the final two minutes to pull away with the win. The Hurricanes outshot Washington by a total of 22-19, won 64.2% of the face-offs, and went 0-2 on the power play in the game. Carolina got goals from Jarvis, Staal, and Svechnikov, while Aho and Staal led the way with seven hits each. Frederik Andersen stopped 18 out of 19 shots in the win, which was a .947 save percentage. 

Prior to that series, the Hurricanes defeated the Devils in the first round in five games by scores of 4-1, 3-1, 2-3, 5-2, and 5-4. Carolina led 2-0 after two games in that series, but they dropped game three on the road, before winning games four and five to advance. Carolina has scored 3.24 goals per game and they have allowed 2.81 goals against per game, while also going 18.7% on the power play and 83.6% on the penalty kill this season. Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho have led Carolina in the playoffs with 10 points each, while Andrei Svechnikov has added nine points. Frederik Andersen is 7-2 with a 1.36 goals against average and a .937 save percentage for the Hurricanes in the postseason. 

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers were able to survive game seven to defeat Toronto in the last round by scores of 4-5, 3-4, 5-4, 2-0, 6-1, 0-2, and 6-1. In their game seven win, Florida scored three goals in the second period to lead 3-0 and they added three more goals in the third after Toronto cut the lead to 3-1. The Panthers outshot Toronto by a total of 34-20, won 49.2% of the face-offs, and went 0-1 on the power play in the game. Florida got goals from Gadjovich, Lundell, Luostarinen, Marchand, Reinhart, and Jones, while Greer and Bennett led the way with seven hits a piece. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 19 out of 20 shots in the game, which was a .950 save percentage. 

Prior to that series, the Panthers defeated the Lightning in the first round in five games by scores of 6-2, 2-0, 1-5, 4-2, and 6-3. Florida has scored 3.00 goals per game and they have allowed 2.72 goals against per game, while also going 23.5% on the power play and 80.7% on the penalty kill this season. Brad Marchand and Eetu Luostarinen have led Florida with 12 points each in the playoffs, while Sam Reinhart has added 11 points. Sergei Bobrovsky is 8-4 with a 2.31 goals against average and a .901 save percentage in the playoffs.

Carolina was able to defeat Washington in five games in the second round of the playoffs, while Florida had to go to seven games against Toronto, so the Hurricanes will have the rest advantage and home ice. Carolina has been outstanding on home ice all season, while Florida was right around .500 on the road in the regular season. I do think Carolina will get the win in this game, as that extra rest will help their defense suffocate the Florida attack. This is going to be a big change for Florida, who is used to playing against a Toronto team that wasn’t great on defense, but now has to go against the Carolina pressure. Take the Hurricanes to win at home.

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview

The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to tie the series at three with a 2-0 win against Florida in game six. Toronto played great defense for the majority of the game and they broke through with two goals in the third for the win. The Maple Leafs recorded 17 shots on goal, won 61.4% of the face-offs, and went 0-2 on the power play in the game. Toronto got goals from Matthews and Pacioretty, while Lorentz added six hits in the game. Joseph Woll stopped all 22 shots that he faced for the shutout win. 

Prior to that win, the Maple Leafs won games one and two by scores of 5-4 and 4-3, but they lost the next three games by scores of 5-4, 2-0, and 6-1. In the first round, Toronto defeated Ottawa in six games, but they were up 3-0 in the series. The Maple Leafs dropped games four and five, but they rebounded with a 4-2 win in game six. Toronto has scored 3.26 goals per game and they have allowed 2.79 goals against per game, while also going 24.8% on the power play and 77.9% on the penalty kill this season. William Nylander has led Toronto with six goals, nine assists, and 35 shots on goal, while Mitch Marner has added two goals, 11 assists, and 14 shots on goal. Joseph Woll is 3-3 with a 3.29 goals against average and an .893 save percentage this postseason. 

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers were unable to close out the series in game six and they will have to travel into enemy territory for the decisive game seven. In game six, Florida played very strong defense in the game, but they struggled to generate scoring chances and missed a few golden chances late in the game for the loss. The Panthers recorded 22 shots on goal, won 38.6% of the face-offs, and went 0-4 on the power play in the game. Florida was led by Verhaeghe and Ekblad, who both had four shots on goal, while Boqvist led the way with eight hits. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 15 out of 17 shots in the game, which was just an .882 save percentage in the loss. 

Prior to this series, the Panthers defeated the Lightning in five games to advance out of the first round. In that series, Florida led 2-0 after two road wins, but they lost game three at home, before winning games four and five to close out the series. Florida has scored 3.00 goals per game and they have allowed 2.72 goals against per game, while also going 23.5% on the power play and 80.7% on the penalty kill this season. Toronto shocked a lot of people by playing so well in game six for the win, as they looked horrible in games four and five, but they have earned a game seven at home here. The Maple Leafs were 27-13-1 at home during the regular season, while the Panthers were 20-19-2 on the road. Florida looked elite in their game five win, but they struggled to generate chances in game six and Bobrovsky let in a soft goal to break the scoreless tie. This should be another very tight game, but Toronto’s building should give them a boost, so I am taking the Leafs at plus money.

Winnipeg Jets Betting Preview

The Winnipeg Jets (62-28-4, 45-49 ATS) not only lost their home-ice advantage with a loss in Game 1 of the current series against the Dallas Stars, but they later lost both road games. Although Winnipeg clawed back in the series with a 4-0 win in Game 5 to stay alive, the Jets are facing elimination again. Nikolaj Ehlers led the team with a pair of goals, while Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored. Connor Hellebuyck registered a shutout as he stopped all 22 shots he faced. 

The Jets average 2.83 goals per game this postseason (9th), while they allow 3.17 GPG (11th). Kyle Connor leads the team with 16 points (5 G and 11 A). Mark Scheifele contributes 10 points (4 G and 6 A), while Neal Pionk has 7 points (1 G and 6 A).

Connor Hellebuyck (6-6-0) will likely take his place in the cage for the Jets on Saturday against the Jets. The 31-year-old is allowing 3.18 goals per game this playoffs with a .863 SV% and two shutouts.

Dallas Stars Betting Preview

The Dallas Stars (57-31-6, 44-50 ATS) have the matchpoint No. 2 on Saturday against the Jets after winning three of the first five games in the series. The Stars had a 3-1 lead prior to Game 5, but for the second time in the series, they lost 4-0. Jake Oettinger saved 31 of 34 shots he faced, while the offense failed to score for the third time this playoffs.

For the second straight game, the Jets play with their backs against the wall, and I am not sure who will emerge victorious on Saturday. One thing I do know is that we’re going to have a tight, low-scoring affair, which was the case in four of five games of the series. Interestingly, the Jets shut the Stars out in both wins, and even though I don’t think it will happen here, I am going with Under.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers are up 3-2 in the series after they won game five by a score of 6-1 in their last game. Florida led 1-0 after the first period and they added three goals in the second to pull away with the easy win. The Panthers recorded 32 shots on goal, won 52.5% of the face-offs, and went 1-4 on the power play in the game. Florida got goals from Bennett, Boqvist, Greer, Ekblad, Kulikov, and Mikkola, while Gadjovich led the team with nine hits in the win. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 out of 32 shots in the game, which was a .969 save percentage. 

Prior to that win, the Panthers lost the first two games of the series by scores of 5-4 and 4-3, but they did win games three and four by scores of 5-4 and 2-0. In the first round, Florida defeated Tampa Bay in five games, but did lose game three at home by a score of 5-1. Florida has scored 3.00 goals per game and they have allowed 2.72 goals against per game, while also going 23.5% on the power play and 80.7% on the penalty kill this season. Sam Reinhart has led Florida with three goals, seven hits, and 39 shots on goal, while Lundell, Bennett, Marchand, Tkachuk, and Luostarinen have all added nine points each. Sergei Bobrovsky is 7-3 with a 2.46 goals against average and an .899 save percentage in the postseason. 

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview

The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing elimination in this game and they have lost three games in a row in the series. In their game five loss, Toronto played with very little energy and they were severely outplayed, but they were able to score late in the game to avoid the shutout. The Maple Leafs recorded 32 shots on goal, won 47.5% of the face-offs, and went 0-3 on the power play in the game. Toronto got their lone goal from Robertson, while McMann and Pacioretty both had eight hits in the win. Joseph Woll stopped 20 out of 25 shots in the game, while Matt Murray stopped six out of seven in relief.

Florida was shaky to start the series, especially in net, but Bobrovsky is locked in now. This Toronto team has looked awful over the last two games, but I still think they have a ton of value, especially at this price. Take the Leafs here, as they fight off elimination.

Series Recap

The Dallas Stars took a 3-1 lead in the series thanks to a 3-1 win in game four of the series over the Jets last time out. Mikael Granlund opened the scoring for Dallas with the lone goal of the opening period and that goal would hold up until Winnipeg tied the game at one just 1:02 into the second period. Granlund restored Dallas’ lead with just over two minutes to go in the second period. Granlund would complete the hat trick at the 7:23 mark of the third period for the 3-1 lead that would hold up until the final horn for the final score.

Stars Looking To Return To Western Conference Finals

Matt Duchene has 82 points including 30 goals along with 52 assists. Jason Robertson has 80 points with 35 goals and 45 assists while Roope Hintz has 67 points with 29 goals and Jamie Benn has 49 points with 16 goals and 33 assists. Wyatt Johnston also has 71 points with 33 goals and 38 assists as well on the year. Evgenii Dadonov’s added 40 points split between 20 goals and 20 assists and Thomas Harley has 50 points with 16 goals and 34 assists as well this year. I’m on the Stars in this one. I know Winnipeg’s been a much better team at home this season and Dallas hasn’t been as strong from a record perspective, but the thing is that I think the Stars have started to figure out the Jets and figure out Connor Hellebuyck. They’ve been able to just keep finding a way up to this point. I think this is one of those games that’s going to be hard fought, but in the end, I just think the Stars are the better team and find the win to advance. Give me Dallas in this one.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers (53-34-4, 40-51 ATS) suffered a couple of narrow road losses to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 2 of the playoffs, but responded with two home wins to tie the series. Following an overtime 5-4 win, the Panthers kept the Leafs off the scoreboard in Game 4, winning 2-0. Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett scored for Florida, while Sergei Bobrovsky saved all 23 shots he faced.

The Panthers average 3.67 goals per game this postseason (4th), while they allow 2.78 GPG (3rd). Brad Marchand leads the team with 8 points (2 G and 6 A). Aleksander Barkov contributes 8 points (3 G and 5 A), while Carter Verhaeghe has 8 points (4 G and 4 A).

Sergei Bobrovsky (6-3-0) will likely take his place in the cage for the Panthers on Wednesday against the Maple Leafs. The 36-year-old is allowing 2.62 goals per game this playoffs with a .888 SV% and two shutouts.

Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview

The Toronto Maple Leafs (58-28-6, 48-44 ATS) opened the series against teh Florida Panthers with two victories at home and had a 2-0 and 3-1 lead in Game 3 in Florida, but left empty-handed as the hosts won in overtime. In Game 4, the Panthers outshot the Maple Leafs 37-23 and deservedly celebrated a 2-0 win. Joseph Woll did well, though, stopping 35 of 37 shots he faced.

Vegas Golden Knights Betting Preview

The Vegas Golden Knights are down 3-1 in the series after they lost game four by a score of 3-0 last time out. Vegas allowed two goals in the first period and another in the second, and couldn’t find any offense in the shutout loss. The Golden Knights recorded 23 shots on goal, won 40.7% of the face-offs, and went 0-3 on the power play in the game. Vegas was led by Smith, who had four shots on goal, while Keegan Kolesar added eight hits in the loss. Adin Hill stopped 29 out of 32 shots in the game four loss. 

Prior to that loss, the Golden Knights lost games one and two by scores of 4-2 and 5-4, but they did win game three by a score of 4-3. In the first round, Vegas defeated Minnesota in six games. The Golden Knights trailed 2-1 in that series, but they won games four, five, and six to advance. Vegas has scored 3.34 goals per game and they have allowed 2.61 goals against per game, while also going 28.3% on the power play and 75.7% on the penalty kill this season. Jack Eichel has led Vegas with one goal, nine assists, and 27 shots on goal, while Mark Stone has added four goals, four assists, and 21 shots on goal. Adin Hill is 5-5 with a 3.15 goals against average and an .876 save percentage this postseason. 

Edmonton Oilers Betting Preview

The Edmonton Oilers are leading this series 3-1 after their 3-0 win in game four. Edmonton scored just 1:27 into the first period and they led 3-0 midway through the second, before coasting to the win. The Oilers recorded 32 shots on goal, won 59.3% of the face-offs, and went 0-2 on the power play in the game. Edmonton got goals from Henrique (2) and Kane, while Kane also led the team with six hits. Stuart Skinner stopped all 23 shots that he faced in the shutout win.

The Golden Knights have been one of the top home teams in the NHL this season, but they did lose games one and two on home ice. Vegas was able to get a last second win in game three of this series in Edmonton, but they showed very little signs of life in game four. I know we saw just three goals in game four in this series, but I think we will get back to high scoring hockey here, as Vegas will have to be aggressive to keep up with Edmonton’s fast pace. You can argue the Jets have been the better team this season overall and the plus money is attractive in pretty much a must win spot, but it’s hard to ignore the home / road splits for these teams. The price also isn’t steep enough to take a shot. Give me the Stars to go up 3-1 in this series.

Vegas Golden Knights Betting Preview
